So few people know the story. I played my setting of Jonah based on the musical signs in the Hebrew text to our choirmaster. He said to me - There is so much here I've never heard before. You must slow it down so I have time to think!

The tender plant that faded in the sun is the convenience of our lifestyles. Are we too just part of that wicked and adulterous generation for whom the sign of Jonah is the only sign given. (And it isn't the great fish דג גדל - it's the whole story.) I love how that word 'great' is repeated again and again.

I've met many who ask - did it really happen - No - it's clearly a tale, but it happens every day.
