Thank you Jim. I never met Jean Vanier but read many of his books and also those of his partner Henri Nouwen who explored similar themes of compassion and theology from the bottom up. I wore out more than one copy of his book Community and Growth as I tried to relate its profound discoveries to life in a Baprist church. His was an humanitarian spirituality which both inspired and embraced me.
