Biography
I am married to Sheila, and have two children both now older than we were when they were born!
Currently I am Principal of the Scottish Baptist College, and have been pastor in several Scottish Baptist churches.
Research interests include Evangelical spirituality, and more recently Scottish Christianity; specific theological interests include kenosis and pastoral theology; Christology and Scripture; and Poetry and theology.
Some favourite theological authors:- Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Joan Chittister, James Denney, P T Forsyth, Abraham Heschel, Julian of Norwich, Catherine Lacugna, Thomas Merton, Jurgen Moltmann. Biblical theologians I like and learn from while often disagreeing, are Walter Brueggemann, N T Wright, J D G Dunn.
Some favourite novelists include Robertson Davies, Henning Mankell, Ann Tyler, Gail Godwin, Carol Shields; George Eliot I read both for fun and for ethical and emotional education.
Poets I spend a lot of time with are Emily Dickinson, R S Thomas, George Herbert, Gerard manley Hopkins, Elizabeth Jennings, and Denise Levertov.
Interests
now an incurably omnivorous reader, when opportunity arises i cook, this blog is a quite large tip of my writing iceberg, i design and work tapestry, play with elementary haiku and fibonacci, and often read poetry (sometimes out loud when alone).
